Hi everyone! Let me introduce myself as the designer and creator of the brand Catsacks Barcelona Leather Bags. It’s been a costly and hard wager, since I’m striving to offer quality products. I’m hoping my efforts will show in the design and the finishing touches, like the inner pockets, the 100% cotton poplin linings or the YKK zippers which guarantee flawless functioning.
I’m hoping that once you have one of my products, it will last you a long time.
I’m also hoping that you’ll follow my blog and enjoy my comments and stories. My goal is to reach everyone about mindful consumption in all aspects.
We clearly live in a culture that since a few decades back has turned our society into a relentless consumption animal. Experts are warning us that we should stop this frenzied habit and be mindful about the source of every object and most of all – where it will end up.
Ideally, we should all get rid of the concept of “disposable”; only with that small action we could make a huge difference in the amount of waste produced by humanity each day.
Even though that’s the bigger picture, I like to think that we can all play our small part, meaningless as it may seem to each of us. That’s why it’s important that we all pitch in to help heal our planet.
The fashion industry has pushed us to get used to a wardrobe change with every season by cheapening products, and thousands of garments which can’t be recycled and are not biodegradable are discarded every year.
In my humble opinion, us consumers should think long and hard if it’s worth it. In the long run, the cost of quality, durable clothes is not much higher and the difference in waste is major.
I must confess I’ve been a compulsive shopper for years myself, but with time I’ve become more aware of the consequences of my consumption habits by doing research on how they affect the environment.
That’s why when I decided to start making bags I chose leather, and my friends and family appealed to my conscience to use an animal-sourced, sustainable material.
On the other hand, this is a material that will exist as long as humans consume meat; if their hides are discarded and aren’t used in the leather industry, it will all go to waste.
I have made a commitment to not use in any of my products any materials that come from animals which aren’t destined for human consumption; that’s clear to me. We must protect the species that for such a long time have been killed for luxury items and whose skin was used to then discard their bodies.
Not to mention, the practice itself is pointless. Nowadays we can obtain a finish very similar to snake or crocodile simply by dyeing a cow hide, avoiding endangering even more species that are already on the verge of extinction.
